Threatening Warning Signs . . .

Small Town SIGN WAR!!

A sign war occurred in Marshfield, Missouri, starting between a McDonald's and a Dairy Queen in July 2022, eventually involving other local businesses and gaining nationwide attention. The fun, creative back-and-forth between the businesses' signs brought the community together and generated positive buzz.

The Challenge
The Sign war began when the McDonald's in Marshfield put up a sign challenging the local Dairy Queen to a sign war.
The Response
Dairy Queen quickly responded with a playful roast, and the "game" was on.
Community Involvement
Other businesses, including a bank and a Wendy's, joined in, creating a communal conversation and competition on their own signs.

Can YOU Pass This 8th Grade Test From 1912?

The content reflects a very different philosophy of education, one shaped by the needs of an agrarian and industrializing society.

Students were expected to leave school after eighth grade and go directly into farming, trades, or clerical work, so the test emphasizes practical arithmetic (calculating crop yields, construction costs, interest rates), memorized geography (railroad routes, rivers, ports), and civic knowledge (functions of government, constitutional principles).

Much of it was about equipping a young teenager to be a competent adult without necessarily continuing formal schooling.
