Ok, so this email asks you to call your kids to come see these pictures, but I’ll leave that up to you. These can be disturbing to some people. There are more photos at the end of the writing.
We've all seen the ad showing a fried-egg as a brain on drugs. This is much more truthful; it shows the face on drugs. I think this would be great for all young people to see.
They were taken by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Department as shown in the photographs. That's Portland, Oregon and one might well-remember "Portland's Living Room" in the heart of downtown as a place where runaways gathered by the hundreds and many were beginning to look like these pictures. So, so sad. Everyone should see this before being tempted.
The pairs of mug shots, which graphically display the damage drugs can do to the face, were collected by the sheriff’s office in Multnomah County, Ore.
Faces were normal, even attractive in initial-photographs shot when addicts were first arrested, metamorphose-over-years and sometimes just months into gaunt, pitted, even toothless wrecks.
"Methamphitamines, for example can cause small-blood vessels around the face to constrict, so consequently the gums shrink just as they will in old age. The teeth remaining can become discolored and black. Both methamphitamines and heroin are often cut from sugar. Acne from oily and sweet things are just injecting sugar into the veins more direct. Other impurities can cause lumpy cysts on the face and other areas such as armpits and groin," says A. Thomas McLellan, director of the Center for Substance Abuse Solutions at the University of Pennsylvania. He added "As for the facial sores, sometimes methamphitamine users will hallucinate and get the sensation there are bugs crawling under their skin so pick at their skin until there are open-sores. The short time to facial devastation may have a big impact on people. Some of these photographs show changes in less than six months. This is a timeframe that people might understand."
With disturbing before-and-after photographs of drug users’ faces, a new anti-drug campaign may succeed where others have failed in grabbing teens’ attention by appealing to their vanity.

The photos are part of a 48-minute documentary called "From Drugs to Mugs" created by Deputy Bret King. King hopes the documentary, which is available on a DVD along with a CD, of mug-shots will help scare kids straight by showing them concrete evidence of damage that can occur within months from using methamphitamines, heroin or cocaine.
Perhaps the most-stunning feature of the photographs is how quickly the face is damaged. That speed isn't surprising to addiction-experts.
