Although I have been posting my oldest forwards first, I received this forward today. So I thought I would post it, since it just happened very recently.

Hurricane Irene Hammers the Northeast

As of Sunday morning, the western edge of Hurricane Irene officially made landfall near Little Egg Inlet, N.J., continued to march northward right along the Jersey shore. This was the first hurricane to have made landfall in New Jersey since 1903!

Heavy rains have spread well ahead of Hurricane Irene's circulation center into New England. The threat of flooding along Irene's path is very high. Strong wind gusts will continue to cause tree damage and power outages. Coastal areas will be battered with large waves and a destructive storm surge.

Although Irene's top sustained winds have decreased the last couple of days, the expansive size of the hurricane continues to pose an extreme threat.

Before moving into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, Hurricane Irene made landfall near Cape Lookout, North Carolina on Saturday morning. This ended the near three-year gap of a hurricane making landfall along the United States coastline.

Hurricane warnings remain posted as far north as southern New England, including New York City and Long Island.

The Hummingbird Lady

This is something I have never seen before, or ever even heard of. This woman lives in a Hummingbird fly zone. As they migrated, about 20 of them were in her yard. She took the little red dish, filled it with sugar water and this is the result.

The woman is Abagail Alfano of Pine, Louisiana - she has been studying them daily and one morning put the cup from the feeder, with water in it, in her hand; as they had gotten used to her standing by the feeder they came over to her hand. She says in touching they are as light as a feather. Abagail also said, 'if she had known her husband was taking pictures she would have put on makeup.'
